Easter 5A

Day: Easter 5

Lectionary Passage: John 14:1-14

Scripture Focus: John 14:5-7

Object: Map or GPS (you may want to print a Google map from your hometown to a popular vacation destination)

How many of you like to go on car trips, like to visit Grandma and Grandpa? Or maybe you go someplace super exciting like mountains to hike and fish or the beach to play in the sand and swim. No matter where you’re going, the most important thing is to know how to get there. That’s why I always have my trusty map. All I have to do is follow the route (draw your finger along the route) and I’ll get there without any trouble.

And that reminds me of what Jesus is telling us in our Bible story. Only this time, out map is Jesus himself! Jesus calls himself “The Way.” But, the way to where? And the answer is: The Father! Jesus is the way to The Father. That means, Jesus shows us the way to get to The Father. Like a map, Jesus shows us how to get The Father by showing us how to do things like live a good life, how to pray, how to help others, and more. So, if you want to know how to get to The Father, then all you have to do is follow The Way and the way is Jesus Christ!

Let’s pray: Thank you God for sending Jesus Christ to show us the way to love you and know you. Amen.
