Day: Pentecost 4
Lectionary Passage: Psalm 119:105-112
Scripture Focus: Psalm 119:105
Good morning everyone! I brought something from my house this morning. It’s usually found in my hallway (reveal the nightlight). It’s a nightlight. During the day, it’s not very spectacular. But let me tell you what! At night, when it’s totally dark in my house and I have to get up and walk from my bedroom to the kitchen to get a drink, I’m really glad to have this little light shining brightly. It shows me the way so that I stub my toe or run into the wall… not that I’ve ever done that before.
This nightlight reminds me of our Scripture passage. It says that the Bible is like a lamp that shows us the way. Hmmm… do you think that means the Bible glows in the dark? No! Of course not. But, that would be pretty cool if it did! What our Scripture passage means is that the Bible tells us all the stuff we need to know to live the way God wants us to. And when we read the Bible and learn what it says, then we’ll know exactly what God wants us to do. Then, we won’t go through life stubbing our toes or running into walls because we make silly mistakes we could have avoided if only we had read the Bible.
So let’s all remember that the Bible is like a light. It guides us every day so we can live the way God wants us to.
Let’s pray: Thank you God for giving us the Bible and helping us to learn it and use it to follow your ways every day. Amen.
