Day: Pentecost 5C
Lectionary Passage: Galatians 3:23-29
Scripture Focus: Galatians 3:28
Object: God Glasses
Preparation: Transform an ordinary pair of sunglasses into God glasses by using glitter and other fun decorations/symbols for God. Or use giant sunglasses like clowns wear.
Wow, you know what I’ve noticed? There’s something different about all us. You have brown hair and she has blond hair. I’m taller than you but shorter than him (point to someone the kids can easily see). And some people have a different skin color than us (show your bare arm for effect). All those differences are good because God made us each unique. But, sometimes we get stuck on the differences and turn them into bad things. And that’s no good because we are all God’s children and God loves us each. We need to see each other the same way God does.
That’s why I’ve got a pair of God Glasses (put on your glasses). Now, I see the way God wants us to: There are no more differences. In our Bible story today, we learn that every single Christian looks the same to God because we’ve all become children of God. And, you know what? I think God wants us to see each other that way, too. Instead of getting stuck on the things that make us different, we need to remember that we are all God’s children and celebrate that we belong to God!
Let’s pray: God, thank you for creating each of us to be special and for bringing us all together to be your children. Amen.
