Day: Proper 12C
Lectionary Passage: Colossians 2:(6-15), 16-19
Scripture Focus: Colossians 2:19
One of my favorite snacks in the whole world is rice crispy treats. And, they are super easy to make! All you have to do is melt some marshmallow and mix it into a the rice crispy cereal. You see, the marshmallow holds together all those little pieces of rice crispy cereal. Without the marshmallow, you would just have a bunch of dry cereal. But the magic of rice crispy treats is that when you add some marshmallow all those cereal pieces hold together nice and tight to make a great snack.
You know, that kind of reminds me of our Bible passage. Paul is telling us that Jesus holds everyone together. You see, we all start out as individual people kind of like all those little pieces of cereal. But, when we become friends with Jesus, we become part of the Body of Christ because Jesus holds us together with other people. I guess that makes Jesus a little like marshmallow — he makes everything stick together! And you know, it’s a really good thing that Jesus holds us together because we are stronger together. Together we can stand up to people who are trying to get us to do bad stuff or make us believe things that aren’t true. Thanks to Jesus, we are all connected and that makes us strong.
Let’s pray: God, thank you for giving us Jesus who holds us together and makes us strong. Amen.
